ABOUT JANARDAN GOSWAMI

Janardan Goswami is a prolific writer from Assam. He is the poet, novelist, columnist and biographer who has brought a new age of thought and style into Assamese literature. Creator of some immensely popular fictions and composer of some of the best forms in poetry, Goswami is one of those writers in recent times that released the Assamese literature from the clutches of so called tradition to a world of wider horizon, exploring the world of cosmology while at the same time remaining deeply rooted in the life and culture of Assam. A humanist per excellence, Janardan Goswami’s poems and fictions have been representing the true and real life and times of the present  age, bringing neo-modernism and universalism in his works which are fast welcomed by a new generation of readers who are rediscovering something really new in them.

A brilliant writer from his student time at the Cotton College, Janardan Goswami did B.E. (Electrical) from Assam Engineering College in 1989 and earned laurels by writing in Prantik in 1990. He joined State Health Technical Organization (SHTO), Govt. of Assam as service engineer (Electrical) for a period of two years and quit the job to become a full-time writer.

He edited Pragya, an academic magazine meant for students and was responsible for heralding a new age of cultural journalism in Assamese as the Chief Editor of Asomiya Sa Re Ga Ma for six years.  Goswami was also associated in active journalism and served as editor of two weeklies and as executive editor of an Assamese daily till 2005.
